There’s no escaping the daily grind and reality of life becoming a doctor. Becoming an adult really hits you in the face, doesn’t it? Still, some jobs are more tricky to train for than others. And we’re not discrediting jobs that aren’t necessarily tricky to train for, but there’s no hiding from the fact that the jobs we’ll discuss below are grueling.
Read on to find out more.
Doctor
Becoming a doctor and being a doctor has to be one of the most challenging experiences. Years of training lead to years of more training – it’s almost like the process never stops. In fact, it really doesn’t. Any doctor will tell you that almost every day (if not every) is a constant learning curve. That’s not touching on the fact that doctors must continually take courses and top up their training, even at a consultant level.
How does the process begin? It starts with four years in university pursuing a bachelor’s degree, then another four years at medical school. That’s just the beginning – specializing takes a few years more, and then there’s the continuous training we discussed. Some doctors will then go to work in specialist clinics mainstream hospitals, or find jobs through a physician staffing company.
Medical students are taught an unimaginable amount of information, ranging from human anatomy to molecular biology and genetics, while also trying to keep up with current research done around medicine globally! They must pass exams like the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination), which is not easy at all, plus become board-certified in one specialty, which means studying for several additional years.
Lawyer
When you think about it, training to become a lawyer might seem less demanding physically compared to, say, a surgeon, but intellectually speaking, becoming one is grueling, requiring lots of time, effort, money, energy, etc. Kim Kardashian can tell you all about it, and fair play to her for taking the prestigious mini-bar (not the drinks) exam with everything else she does. Yes, she’s ‘only a celebrity,’ but she’s also a billionaire businesswoman.
To get into any law school, you first need to complete a bachelor’s degree program, which typically lasts four years, followed by three more years spent studying jurisprudence at an accredited institution.
Upon graduation, a successful candidate may sit a bar examination conducted by the state administration board, which has jurisdiction over the legal practice area chosen within that particular jurisdiction. If passed, they would become eligible to be called an attorney-qualified practice law courtroom before judges, juries, etc.
Professional Athletes
Why does nobody ever include this on their job roles list – perhaps it’s one of the most demanding jobs out there.
Training to be a professional athlete takes up your whole life. It’s not necessarily a job; it’s a lifestyle. Not only does it require physical strength but also mental toughness and thinking critically. Very often, athletes begin training in their early years, investing uncountable hours into perfecting their skills, building better bodies, and comprehending the ins and outs of what they are involved in.
The journey towards being a pro in any game is highly competitive, and the journey out can be rapid if standards aren’t met.
To the best of their ability, students have to shine while still studying for scholarships. They have to excel in college, knowing very well that scouts are watching them closely, if not passionately. The regimen followed by professionals includes daily intense exercises, practice sessions, and strict diets combined with recovery programs that could last long hours each day.
Still, countless people would agree that sacrifices made at whatever cost seem insignificant compared with the reward.
Which job would you rank as the most difficult to train for? They’re all ultra-demanding careers where people are performing at the highest level. They’re also some of the most competitive!
